4 out of 5 flames. The chemistry between Kain and Ava is intense and authentic. There’s enough heat to keep romance fans satisfied, but it’s tastefully balanced with story development and emotional depth.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

This book hits the marks for a solid MC romance: high stakes, emotional baggage, action, and hot-but-tender love scenes. While a few pacing issues popped up early on, they didn’t take away from the overall impact of the story. Nicola Jane has created a gritty and emotional world that feels lived-in, and I’m definitely picking up the next book in the Splintered Hearts series.
